About Transcriptions & Non-facsimile Reprints

What a joy it is to read and use old cookbooks! Facsimile reprints make this possible, and affordable, for all. Sometimes, though, a reprint is available only as a transcription or non-facsimile. There can be various reasons for this — maybe the original book is in a delicate or damaged condition, in handwritten script or a typeface that’s difficult to read, or in another language! Some publishers simply prefer to reset the type, regardless of the original book’s suitability for facsimile reproduction. In any case, we make every attempt to identify abridged reprints; if the complete text of the original work isn’t included the description will say so.
